Beautiful Church Cathedral Pictures
St Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russia
The Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed commonly known as Saint
Basil's Cathedral, is a former church in Red Square in Moscow, Russia. The
building, now a museum, is officially known as the Cathedral of the
Intercession of the Blessed Virgin on the Moat or Pokrovsky Cathedral. It was
built from 1555–61 on orders from Ivan the Terrible and commemorates the
capture of Kazan and Astrakhan. It has been the hub of the city's growth since
the 14th century and was the city's tallest building until the completion of
the Ivan the Great Bell Tower in 1600.
Instead of following the original ad hoc layout (seven
churches around the central core), Ivan's architects opted for a more
symmetrical floor plan with eight side churches around the core, producing
"a thoroughly coherent, logical plan" despite the erroneous latter
"notion of a structure devoid of restraint or reason" influenced by
the memory of Ivan's irrational atrocities. Sources

Royal Albert Hall, Kensington, London
Royal
Albert Hall is a concert hall on the northern edge of South Kensington, London,
best known for holding the annual summer Proms concerts since 1941. It has a
capacity of up to 5,272 seats; standing areas and stage specifications can
change this. The Hall is a registered charity held in trust for the nation and
receives no public or central and local government funding.
Since its
opening by Queen Victoria in 1871, the world's leading artists from several
performance genres have appeared on its stage and it has become one of the UK's
most treasured and distinctive buildings. Each year it hosts more than 350
events including classical concerts, rock and pop, ballet and opera, sports,
award ceremonies, school and community events, charity performances and
banquets. The Hall was originally supposed to have been called The Central Hall of Arts and Sciences,
but the name was changed by Queen Victoria to Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences when laying the foundation
stone, as a dedication to her deceased husband and consort Prince Albert. Sources
